A podiatrist is a physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing and treating conditions of the foot and ankle. Achieving a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree (DPM) requires completing four years of an accredited podiatric medical school, followed by a 3 year hospital-based residency.
